Savin Rock is located in West Haven.  The amusement park began in 1878 when Charles Hagar introduced a flying horses ride.  It evolved into White City Amusement Park owned by the New Haven Street Railroad (a trolley company) which opened in 1904.  Around 1922 the Red
    Devil Roller Coaster
was built and operated until 1932 when it was destroyed by fire.  The
    Thunderbolt Roller Coaster
was located next to the Wilcox Pier which opened in 1925.  The Thunderbolt and the Wilcox Pier were both destroyed by a hurricane in 1938.  Savin Rock ended as an amusement park in the period 1964-67 due to fires, storms, and social changes.  Source for this paragraph is Bob Goldsack's book "A Century of Fun - A Pictorial History of New England Amusement Parks" published in 1993.
