Description
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL "CHACHAL" OR NECKLACE IN THE QUECHUA LANGUAGE THAT IS TRADITIONALLY WORN BY INDIGENOUS PEOPLE IN GUATEMALA.LIKE THE INDIGENOUS GUATEMALAN GARMENTS OR HUIPILS, EACH CHACHAL HAS ITS OWN REGIONAL STYLE DEPENDING ON WHERE IT WAS MADE.
THE AGE AND EXACT LOCATION WHERE THIS ONE WAS MADE IN GUATEMALA IS UNKNOWN.
THE METAL IS PROBABLY A SILVER AMALGAM AND HAS PRETTY QUETZAL BIRDS ON EACH SIDE OF A LARGE COIN THAT MEASURES 1 4/8" .
THE BOTTOM HAS THREE SMALL 5 REAL COINS AND BELOW THEM A FISH, BIRD AND ANOTHER QUETZAL WHICH IS A BIRD KNOWN FOR GOOD LUCK.
THE SURFACES MAKE IT HARD TO DISTINGUISH THE WRITING AND DATES.
THE ENTIRE PIECE MEASURES JUST UNDER 4 3/4" AND THE CHAIN IS 10 3/4" ONE SIDE ONLY. (DOUBLE FOR ACTUAL LENGTH)
A TRUE PIECE OF GUATEMALAN JEWELRY WITH GREAT STYLE.
