Huipil (blouse);is from Patzun, Guatemala. It is hand woven, 100% cotton. The huipil is then hand embroidered. Each village uses a different color pallet and design in their weaving. Many of the women are now organized in cooperatives are are self sustaining with their hand weaving. Designs and techniques are passed down through generations. The huipil measures 30 1/2" across the shoulders 30" bust 30" across the bottom 21" in length The overall coloring is maroon and with yellow, white and brown vertical stripes. Purple and pink flowers are embroidered on the neck and sleeves. Bottom edge has a fray at the end of the weave. Tag sewn on the bottom of the piece states, "Hand Woven in Guatemala, 100% cotton fabric, Niederhauser LLC dba Cosas". Condition is very good with a few weaving flaws. Embroidery on one of the sleeves is frayed and some is missing(pictured). A beautiful piece of textile art with attention to detail.
