Kazuko Oshima was a Japanese born artist and jeweler who was known by one name, Kazuko. Her jewelry was sold exclusively at Barneys in New York until she passed away in 2007 and was collected by Bianca Jagger and Gloria Vanderbilt. She began her career in 1986 by sewing rock crystals onto scarves made of silk tulle and pieces of antique kimono. One of her scarves was worn as a bridal veil by Madonna in the video for "Like a Virgin". Her jewelry could be delicately wrapped in thin wisps of wire or more boldly wrapped in a web of gold. Each piece was made with passion and precision by Kazuko herself and each piece was unique. She believed crystals to be talismans so while each piece is beautiful to look at, it also has subtle meanings of wellness and good luck. Kazuko said of her pieces, "If I am a brand, it is because my name is attached. It's really the person who is wearing it that brings the meaning."
Kazuko was a personal friend of my late mother. This was a gift from her.
